We don’t typically list functional medicine-based options, as they can lead people down expensive rabbit holes.
While this programme leans toward functional medicine, we’ve included it for those who may find the structure or explanation helpful post-recovery.
Just avoid going too deep into testing or supplements unless you’re sure it’s needed.

S.H.I.N.E. is a functional medicine-based recovery method developed by Dr Jacob Teitelbaum. It stands for Sleep, Hormones, Immunity/Infections, Nutrition, and Exercise (as able), and offers what it sees as a comprehensive wellness roadmap for ME/CFS and fibromyalgia.
-
Delivered as an eight-hour self-paced online course (free), the programme teaches an integrated approach to optimising key systems and energy. Tools include an Energy Analysis Program to help identify personal contribution factors.
-
In clinical studies, over 90% of patients reported improvement using S.H.I.N.E., including a 75–90% increase in quality of life within months to years. While evidence may appeal to those wanting structured improvement of physical systems, it is text-heavy and may require personal medical knowledge to apply effectively.
-
Some participants report improved sleep, reduced pain, and better energy levels after applying SHINE’s targeted recommendations.
Those who worked with experienced SHINE practitioners often say the personalised plans were helpful and well-tailored.
